Sudha brand is the most selling milk of Bihar and
Jharkhand states of India, serving more than 20 million people. It has variety
of options, and my favorite is Sudha Gold. I am using this milk since last few
years.
Sudha Gold is produced by Bihar State Milk Co -
Operative Society at various plants scattered throughout the state. The current
price of 1 kg pack is Rs. 48. The price has recently been increased making it
little bit costlier than that of raw milk. Sudha Gold is pasteurized full cream
milk.
My preference for pasteurized milk started when my
oldest son developed lactose intolerance, mainly because of E. Coli bacteria
found in the raw milk. Sudha Gold being pasteurized is soft on stomach and none
of my family members developed any sort of problem. Sudha Gold is full cream
milk. The fat content is quite high. 100 ml of milk contains 6 gm of plain fat
and 3.8 gm of unsaturated fat. This is obviously large amount. My wife uses a
novel method to keep off the content under safe limit. She adds one glass of
water while boiling the milk. That doesn't change the quality of milk. The
concentration still remains good.
Moreover, we get enough amount of ghee (clarified
butter) with this milk. In the long run, it saves us money. Sudha Gold doesn't
contain sugar. But, the taste is quite good. In fact, all my children love
drinking it without adding sugar. Sudha Gold contains all necessary minerals
and vitamins. However, the most important thing is sufficient amount of Calcium
which helps in the optimum production of Vitamin D in the body. As you might
know, this is not possible with the raw milk.
The one drawback, I find with Sudha Gold is 16 mg of
Cholesterol. This may not be termed as bad cholesterol. But, I ensure that
whenever my father comes at my home, I get another variant of Sudha Milk; that
is Sudha Shakti which is low fat and cholesterol free option.
One thing that I would like to add here is a recent
incident with my cousin. His five year old son is getting treatment for Blood
Cancer from Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai. The oncologist has asked him to
give his baby Sudha Shakti Milk, or any other low fat milk. Sudha Gold has been
strictly prohibited. He didn't ask the reason, and just followed the advice. I
think one should extend this advice while being in treatment for any serious
ailments. Sudha Gold should not be taken during that time.
The reason is high
content of fat. Sudha Gold is definitely worth trying milk, if you have no
problem with large amount of fat.
